Frequently asked Questions about Counselling and Psychotherapy
How long will it take before I feel better?
Everyone is different, and therefore people need varying amounts of time. I offer both short-term work and open-ended work. We will discuss what is best for you at our initial meeting.
How do I know you can help me?
At our initial meeting we can discuss what is on your mind. I have worked with many different people bringing a range of issues. It’s unusual if I can’t help someone, but if at the end of our initial meeting, I don’t think I can help you, we can discuss which service might be more appropriate.
How will you help me?
Successful therapy is not about being given 'advice' or 'answers', but being helped to work out your own understanding and find your own solutions.
Is it confidential?
Yes, except in exceptional circumstances, whatever we talk about is confidential.
Do you have a privacy policy?
Yes, I will share my privacy policy with you when you book in for an initial appointment.
When can I come and see you?
Availability for sessions varies, please contact me to discuss my current availability.
What happens when I come and see you?
In our first meeting we will discuss what has brought you to therapy, and I will ask you some questions to find out more about you. In our subsequent meetings, we will focus on whatever is important to you – it’s your time.
I want to come and see you, what do I do?
You can call me or you can email me. If I am not able to answer your call please leave a message and I will normally return your call within 24 hours. I will also respond to emails within 24 hours. We can then set up an initial appointment.
What are your fees?
Please contact me for details of my current fees.
How do I pay you?
I accept online bank transfers (BACS)
Do you offer disabled access?
My consulting room has easy access, but do contact me to discuss your individual needs.
How do online sessions work?
I currently offer online sessions using Zoom. Some people prefer telephone sessions, and that is fine too. If you haven’t used Zoom before I will give you details on how to access it and will send you a secure Zoom link to join the sessions. Zoom sessions are just like in person sessions, it’s a safe space to talk and explore what is going on for you. Online sessions are very convenient as you don’t need to travel anywhere, but it is important that you have a quiet and confidential space to talk.
People have their sessions in their car, at work, or at home - whatever works for you.
If you have other questions, please call or email.
